Welcome to Audax Ventus: Where the Wind is Bold and the Mission is Shared
Whether you're stepping aboard as a deckhand, documentarian, educator, researcher, fellow, or resident explorer—welcome. You’re not just joining a crew or a program. You’re becoming part of a living experiment in ethical exploration, collaborative learning, and environmental justice.
Audax Ventus is a voluntary, nonprofit expedition platform powered by people who believe in the urgency of this moment and the strength of collective action. Our sailing vessel serves as both a home and a field station—a place for curiosity, contribution, and care.
Here, exploration isn’t about conquest or discovery for its own sake. It’s about listening, witnessing, and carrying forward the stories, science, and knowledge that matter most—before they’re lost.
Life aboard Audax Ventus is immersive, intentional, and deeply collaborative. You’ll be part of a working crew responsible for vessel operations, navigation, and the support of ongoing field projects—ranging from documentary filmmaking to cultural research and sustainability innovation. Everyone contributes. Everyone learns.
Expeditions balance structure with spontaneity. You might start your day monitoring seabirds or prepping solar panels, and end it recording an oral history or watching a storm roll in. There’s room for both discipline and wonder—and always space for joy, adventure, and the passions that brought you here.
Whether you’re joining us for a week or two as a Fellowship Donor, Patron, or Sponsor, for three months or more as a collaborative crew member, or in a leadership role as an Explorer-in-Residence, your time aboard will be shaped by the mission-driven projects we undertake together.
Each expedition supports a blend of interconnected programs. While your specific role may vary by voyage, these are the primary pathways you may be part of:
Field storytelling, photography, and filmmaking
Help document the people, species, and places we encounter. Whether through interviews, cinematography, editing, or ambient field recordings, your work will help amplify ecological truths and frontline voices often missing from mainstream narratives.
Community collaboration, species tracking, and data collection
Support megafauna observations, migration tracking, and the building of respectful relationships with Indigenous and coastal communities. This research is as much about reciprocity and listening as it is about science.
Teaching, media creation, and real-time learning
Assist with live broadcasts, VR content, and open-access education. From sailing school workshops to digital storytelling for hospital-bound children, this work helps bring the field to those who can’t reach it.
Sailing, navigation, and remote field operations
Participate in core vessel operations—navigation, crewing, anchoring, provisioning, and more. This is exploration guided by ethics, built on shared responsibility and low-impact travel.
Sensitive missions, logistics, and behind-the-scenes work
Support discreet environmental justice efforts through observation, documentation, and quiet logistics. These operations prioritize trust, safety, and a deep ethic of care.
Mentorship, innovation, and field leadership
As an Explorer-in-Residence, you’ll bring lived experience and professional expertise to the crew—sharing knowledge, testing tools, and mentoring others as we navigate the shifting landscapes of conservation and culture.
While each expedition may differ in scope or setting, the essentials remain the same:
We’ll provide packing lists, onboarding materials, and a shared understanding of life at sea. In return, we ask only that you bring your presence, your purpose, and your best intentions.
We don’t claim to have all the answers—but we believe in asking better questions. We don’t promise comfort—but we offer clarity, community, and purpose. This is Audax Ventus. We’re glad you’re here.

As a Collaborating Crew Member, you're not a passenger—you’re part of the engine that keeps Audax Ventus moving forward. Whether you’re helping to sail the vessel, assist with scientific fieldwork, document unfolding stories, or manage daily logistics, your presence is both valued and vital.
This role is designed for those who want to be fully immersed in the expedition—living and working aboard for a minimum of three months. You’ll engage in a wide range of tasks depending on your background and interests: sailing and navigation, provisioning, community liaison, wildlife observation, and creative work such as photography, field recording, and video editing.
You don’t need to arrive as an expert. What matters most is initiative, adaptability, and a deep respect for the sea, the science, and the people we encounter.
From crewing watches to cutting field footage, from collaborating on research protocols to sharing meals under open skies, collaborating crew members help carry both the physical and ethical weight of our mission.
This is where exploration meets purpose—one shared task, and one shift at a time.

Wisdom in motion. Guidance at sea.
The Explorer-in-Residence Program invites seasoned professionals—scientists, storytellers, artists, innovators, and cultural knowledge holders—to join our expeditions not simply as observers, but as contributors, mentors, and collaborators.
This program is designed to create space for lived expertise. Explorers-in-Residence bring a unique perspective shaped by experience in the field, on the front lines of conservation, or within communities often left out of traditional exploration narratives. Aboard Audax Ventus, they play an active role in shaping the direction of our work—whether testing sustainable tools, mentoring emerging crew members, or co-leading research and creative projects.
It’s not about hierarchy—it’s about reciprocity. We believe that the best exploration is intergenerational, interdisciplinary, and inclusive. Our vessel becomes a floating forum for collaboration, experimentation, and knowledge exchange.
If you're someone who carries deep field experience and a desire to give back by guiding others, we welcome your presence—and your perspective—aboard.
